Last year, when Wildwood Crest New Jersey was being recognized among America’s Top 10 Destinations for Family Fun by Yahoo! Travel, plans for new hotels and consolidation were underway in Wildwood New Jersey.  To attract more business travelers and conferences for the Wildwood Convention Center, construction a new motel, dubbed the Wildwoodian is proposed to be merged with the Star Lux Motel.

A local resident reported calling the police 10-times a year. blaming the rise in crime on hoteliers that use loopholes to harbor seasonal section 8 dwellers.

Crime data published by the Wildwoods shows that certain crimes are already on the rise. However, a comparison of  the latest data agrgegated in 2009 and predicted for 2012 suggests a significant jump in property crimes. In 2009, there were 492. But based on the current incident rate, Wildwood officials predict 607 such crimes with 220 burglaries, up from 162.

Although, the Wildwoods Police Department is staffed with 19 patrolmen,  30 officers – a lieutenant, five sergeants, three corporals one captain, and a chief, those familiar with the off season crime attribute the problem to inept scheduling and better coverage of the impacted streets.
